Why People Choose Acupuncture?
Acupuncture is a safe treatment for all ages and can be used effectively alongside conventional medicine and other complementary therapies.
Acupuncture is an ancient healing system that dates back thousands of years. It originated in China and has been used there and in other far eastern cultures ever since.
According to principles of acupuncture, energy that is present in our body moves along a network of connected channels referred to as meridians. The healthy and free flow of this energy otherwise known as Qi is considered to be essential for health and to maintain homeostasis in the body.
Along the meridians there are about 360 acupuncture points, each having different functions. The processes of needling or stimulating the points help restore the free flow of the energy, which helps nurse you back to health.
Acupuncture is now a very popular treatment in UK and is broadly used for a number of health ailments.
What Can I Expect?
Acupuncture is gentle treatment despite the use of needles. These are very fine, single use needles which get inserted into an acupuncture point on a meridian of the body chosen by your therapist post consultation. Generally they are painless but occasionally you may feel a tingling sensation or a dull ache for a second or two.
During treatment the needles will often be left in place for up to 20 – 45 minutes and patients commonly experience a pleasant feeling of relaxation. Treatment can be combined with moxa*, gua- sha*, cupping*, reflexology, tui-na*, herbs and facial acupuncture. These options are available and can be integrated in your treatment.
Treatment is aimed at the root of your condition as well as the main symptoms. This approach helps with resolving your complaint and underlying issues. Many people find it can also lead to an improvement with other niggling problems, increased energy levels and an enhanced feeling of wellbeing.
A detailed consultation will take place either prior or on the day of your appointment.

Moxa or Moxibustion
The herb Mugwort is burnt on specific acupuncture points either as a direct moxa, or moxa is placed on the needles for a warming, healing effect. Moxa stick is also used to warm and stimulate the flow of Qi in larger areas of the body.

Gua Sha
The word means scraping. A blunt edged tool is used with sweeping motions to release muscle tension and promote the Qi and blood flow to the area. Single use guasha tool is used.

Tui Na
The oldest known therapeutic massage and body work. Tuina is a deep tissue Chinese massage, part of the TCM system, known as Pinch and Pull. It is not generally used for pleasure and relaxation, but rather as a treatment to address specific patterns of disharmony.

Cupping
Cupping is used widely around the world in different traditions. We use glass or silicone cups that are placed on the skin by creating vacuum. It helps the movement of Qi and blood, an exceptionally powerful technique in the treatment of musculoskeletal complaints.
